I worked for the MOD in the 80's and there was a map going round much like above. Except the 'evil-doers' were labelled as 'plucky mujahadeen'. What a difference a decade makes.
"Plucky mujahadeen", now they're Taliban, warlords and drug lords.
Was the UK the centre of the universe on the MOD (unofficial) map, Chris?
I, just right now, interacted with an American PEP (progressive except for Palestine)on Facebook. He told me "the Palestinians had 1900 years to build a state but they didn't! They waited until the Israelis made one and now they want one!"!!
I'm not exaggerating Jemmy..Those are his words! I replied that's because their country was occupied by foreign forces most of that time by the Crusaders, the Mamluks, the Ottomans, the British and then the Israelis so it was hard to build a state in such conditions..He scuffed and replied.."You gotta wonder why they're always occupied!Huhh! There must be somethin' ....
I cut it short with the idiot but I should have asked if he also wondered if a rape victim did not ask for it..
Some Americans are so insular it's mind-boggling..A tragedy!

I clicked on the map and I have to admit that this is the funniest thing I've seen in a long time..

No sense of world history. How many Middle Eastern nations were in existence a century ago? That includes the synthetic state of Israel. For that matter how many Eastern European nations were in existence a century ago? Or African? Go back two centuries and where were the Latin American nations?
Come to think of it, there's something in that jokey map. It's about the imperialist mindset. The empires of the past left the stage, but the imperial ambition of the American ruling class is reflected in the contempt for other nations and peoples satirised in the map.
