Well, the first of my World Cup predictions has gone for a burton. The host nation has gone out in the first round. Even the obliging French couldn't help them, though they tried their best - Quelle politesse.
All the French games were programmed at 4 AM. Didn't watch a single one, only highlights. I did well not waking up for any, though my son did. Only for the first two. Got the message..
I saw the last French game and I honestly believed that they'd been bribed to help the host team through. I don't think that now, I think they just didn't give a damn.
"Accroissement des masses salariales, transferts faramineux, droits TV surréalistes, contrats d’image, mise en Bourse des grands clubs, déficits pharaoniques, appauvrissement des filières de formation dont la France s’était fait une spécialité et qui ne servent plus qu’à la fabrication « produits exportables », etc". Old, tired and somewhat disillusioned, but trying to keep up standards. Aware that capitalism cannot be reformed, but despairing of its dissolution in the near future, I use whatever means are available to me to avoid capitulation. I join forces with other resisters in the Industrial Workers of the World.

Sounds just like the English setup.
