I'm not absolutely certain if true but I learned that, initially, this poem was not about Liberty but about his then wife Nusch. He only had to substitute her name with 'Liberté' when he saw it was more befitting considering the circumstances. He took part in the resistance. Eluard was born in Saint Denis just at the outskirts of Paris, a place where I had a painting studio for 7 years. And well, incredible poem to say the least.
Le Tour arrives in Paris on Sunday, after dark they say, so it will be in truth "La ville-lumière". I suppose that will be Monday morning for you, TG, and a work day.
"Grandad's swearing at the telly..." (Alan Klein, "What a Crazy World.")
Old, tired and somewhat disillusioned, but trying to keep up standards. Aware that capitalism cannot be reformed, but despairing of its dissolution in the near future, I use whatever means are available to me to avoid capitulation. I join forces with other resisters in the Industrial Workers of the World.
