How many Israelis does it take to change a light bulb?
One - he watches the Palestinian do the job, then beats him up and calls him a lazy Arabushi.

"I'm quite interested in the Middle East, I'm actually studying that Israeli army martial arts. And I know 16 ways to kick a Palestinian woman in the back." (Frankie Boyle)

Iranian cleric: Promiscuous women cause quakes

BEIRUT – A senior Iranian cleric says women who wear immodest clothing and behave promiscuously are to blame for earthquakes.

Iran is one of the world's most earthquake-prone countries, and the cleric's unusual explanation for why the earth shakes follows a prediction by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad that a quake is certain to hit Tehran and that many of its 12 million inhabitants should relocate.

"Many women who do not dress modestly ... lead young men astray, corrupt their chastity and spread adultery in society, which (consequently) increases earthquakes," Hojatoleslam Kazem Sedighi was quoted as saying by Iranian media. Sedighi is Tehran's acting Friday prayer leader.

Certainly if the iranians can steal enough western know how and secretly purchase our technology, they should eventually be able to product a crude nuclear device...70or so years after the west did so.

Yes indeed, govt edicts from religious figures that female behaviors cause earthquakes, that sure does destroy any silly notions I had about backwardness in the mullah state of iran :)

PS: It was only a joke - told on a popular radio station because everyone listening "gets it" -- iran loathing is part of the zeitgest in the US, and nothing posted here is going to change that. (fleming) 5:25 PM

... and the Iranian mullah Pat Robertson assured the world the the Haitian earthquake was a result of the Haitians having made a pact with the devil. Oh no, wait a minute, he's an enlightened American, one of the Lords of Creation.
More from the white massa -
"We have killed over 40 million unborn babies in America," Robertson said on his September 12, 2005, broadcast of "700 Club."

"I was reading, yesterday, a book that was very interesting about what God has to say in the Old Testament about those who shed innocent blood. And he [the author] used the term that those who do this, 'the land will vomit you out.' ... But have we found we are unable somehow to defend ourselves against some of the attacks that are coming against us, either by terrorists or now by natural disaster? Could they be connected in some way?"

Thanks for transferring Jemmy.

BIG difference in that Robertson is a private citizen. He can say what he wants in the land of free speech. The Iranian dude is a high ranking govt "official", speaking in an official capacity.

Look, there are a lot of ways you can compare and contrast the US and Iran. But the bottom line is the mullahs are 100000 times more backward and loopier than anything the US has going on -- outside a few isolated nutter groups that no one takes seriously.

Its clear that the entire middle east is far, far behind the US/west in just about every technolgy/modernization measure. We all know the US has such a huge lead on the ME in technolgy that they have no hope of ever catching us. They will just fall farther and farther behind and, barring an alien invasion or world wide plague, eventually become totally and utterly irrelevant, especially as the world switches to non fossil-based fuels. In fact, Id say this is probably their heyday. Its gonna be a really long and bad slide down to nothing for them.

My joke was actually funny Jemmy. Yours was not. Sorry.

I know you can do better -- although if want to appeal to the paleo fan club you were on target because bitterness is their stock and trade.

Yeah, yeah, yeah ...
I didn't realise it was a joke, flem. I thought it was a little morale-booster for all those Yanks hiding in their nuclear shelters from the Iranian bomb.
You don't think the Iranians are capable of changing a light bulb, while most of your compatriots believe those same Iranians are capable of building a nuclear bomb in a matter of weeks and launching a nuclear strike against the US in no time at all. You'd better start watching Fox News and get your head straight.

We are pretty darn certain even the crazies in Iran arent dumb enough to launch a direct nuke attack against the US. That would be utter suicide for them, and wouldnt hurt us much at all. They dont have the capability to strike us now, and may not ever. So no, that isnt our fear.

There are two concerns: They provide nuclear tech/materials to non-state actors for strikes against US interests anywhere in the world. They have supplied our adversaries before (ie marine barracks in lebanon) and nothing says they wouldnt love to get a nuke in some nutcases' hands.

Second, Iranian nuclear capability is an existential threat to Israel. Even if never used, the fact they have it and WANT to do so could destroy their state over time. You know this to be true, and I know it to be true. And Israel is a friend of the US, will remain a friend of the US. End of story. Such a threat cannot go unanswered by them, and thus we are inevitably drawn in.

Iran would love to strike such a blow, claim they didnt do so or did so out of national defense, and then dare the US/Israel to retailiate. Id say better to stop the mullahs from getting in over their head first.
